creating space for you

You did not get hurt alone, and you do not have to heal alone. Whether you are coming to therapy with lots of life stressors, with recent traumas, or with old wounds, my desire is to listen deeply to you. Often we can feel trapped by ideas of what we're "supposed" to feel, or by the expectations we feel from others. My hope is that in our work together, we can make space for you to get in touch with what's really true for you.

I specialize in working with fat and queer clients. I also love working with anyone who feels like their life experiences are outside of society's mold, or who feels limited by the ideas you're told of how to live your life.

Philosophy

My approach to therapy is rooted in these principles:

  • Our lives are shaped by many kinds of relationships. This includes relationships with family and friends, with school and work, and with the larger culture. In therapy, we explore the ways these relationships have impacted you to help you gain clarity about yourself and your experiences.

  • I work from a relational therapy approach. This type of therapy focuses on building a healing relationship between the client and the therapist. When you can bring your full self to a relationship without judgment or rejection, this can help create a sense of safety and freedom. This can make it possible to explore parts of yourself that were not allowed before.

  • As a therapist, I pay attention to how power dynamics can play out in therapy. This includes the power dynamics of our roles of therapist and client, as well as power dynamics that may arise from our various identities. While I bring my own experiences and knowledge to our work, I hold a fundamental belief that you are the expert on yourself. My goal as your therapist is to support you in building trust in your own sense of guidance for navigating your life.

  • We are also deeply shaped by the ways we hold emotions in our bodies, and by the ways we relate to spirituality. The approach I offer is talk therapy, but I also support clients in exploring their relationships to embodiment and spirituality as important components of deeper, integrative growth and healing.
